Several Benicia firefighter-paramedics helped deliver a baby on a local freeway over the weekend.
The incident played out last Saturday around 6:20 p.m. when firefighters received a call of a woman who had gone into labor while driving along Interstate 680 near Lake Herman Road.
Firefighters from the city's Station 11 rushed to the scene and helped deliver the newborn on the freeway.
After delivery, the mother and the newborn were taken to a hospital in Fairfield for follow-up medical attention. Both were reportedly doing well when they were admitted to the emergency room.
