A Sacramento County man died early Tuesday morning when his pick-up truck collided with a barrier along Interstate 80 in Dixon.

The crash happened just after 4:50 a.m. along the westbound lanes of the freeway when Lance Mitchell, 49, of Elverta collided with the center divide.

The vehicle crossed all lanes of the freeway and came to rest along a barbed wire fence adjacent to the shoulder.

It took firefighter-paramedics around 10 minutes to reach the scene after the crash, according to a spokesperson for the City of Dixon. Paramedics performed CPR, but Mitchell ultimately died from his injuries sustained in the crash.

It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Mitchell's pick-up truck was towed from the shoulder of the freeway around 7 a.m. Traffic was congested for several hours during the morning commute while CHP officers processed the scene of the crash.
