A large vegetation fire near the gore point of Interstate 80 in Cordelia drew a significant firefighting response to the freeway early Wednesday evening.
The fire was reported around 5 p.m. along the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Red Top Road.
A fire crew from Fairfield located the fire between the freeway and nearby McGary Road and called for a one-alarm response.
Firefighters from the Cordelia Fire Protection District and CAL FIRE helped battle the flames, which charred two acres of dry grass before forward progress was finally stopped.
Traffic was congested along both sides of Interstate 80 near the scene of the blaze. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
