Firefighters in Fairfield have contained a fast-moving grass fire that burned close to Highway 12 in the city on Tuesday.

The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. in the creek area south of the highway near Beck Avenue.

The blaze posed several challenges fore firefighters, including difficulties accessing the fire and troublesome terrain.

At one point, a three-alarm response was issued after the fire appeared to burn close to Pennsylvania Avenue near Suisun City.

Emergency officials implemented a full closure of Highway 12 in both directions between Beck Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue for at least an hour, with vehicles re-routed onto surface streets. Northbound lanes of Pennsylvania Avenue in Fairfield and the intersection of Cordelia Road at Pennsylvania Avenue in Suisun City were also closed to traffic.

The fire was contained around 2:15 p.m. There was no information on what caused the blaze.
