A wind-whipped grass fire drew firefighting resources from across Solano County to Fairfield on Thursday.

The fire started around 10:30 a.m. in the grassy field north of Discovery Way.

At least 12 acres of dry grass burned in the fire, which progressed up the hill toward the area of the water tower.

Several CAL FIRE aircraft provided assistance to Fairfield firefighters, as did crews from Vallejo, Benicia, Suisun City and Vacaville.

Police were initially looking for a person who was seen fleeing from the area of the hill shortly after the fire started. Later, a spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department confirmed the blaze was started by a spark from a mower.

Discovery Way was closed in the area while fire personnel were on the scene. The roads were re-opened around 12:30 p.m., shortly after the fire was knocked down.
