The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has issued a SIG Alert for westbound lanes of Interstate 80 through Fairfield after a multi-vehicle crash there.

The crash was reported around 3:20 p.m. near the Air Base Parkway exit and involves as many as seven vehicles, according to information learned by Solano NewsNet.

Preliminary information indicates a big rig crashed into several vehicles on the freeway and possibly jack-knifed on the road.

All lanes of the freeway are blocked, with damaged cars across the roadway. The crash is causing congestion that stretches to the Cherry Glen Road off-ramp in Vacaville.

The CHP is working to clear the right lane of the freeway to allow some traffic to get trough, but it is unclear when Interstate 80 will fully re-open through the area.
