Fairfield police officers have taken a robbery suspect into custody after a late-night pursuit that wound through parts of the city early Friday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m., police received a call of a person who was robbed at gunpoint in front of a bank along the 1800 block of North Texas Street.
The victim was able to give police a description of the purported assailant, as well as the vehicle he was driving. About 10 minutes later, a patrol officer spotted the vehicle and tried to stop the driver, but he took off.
Police later recovered the car in the area of Dover Street and East Tabor Avenue, but the suspect was nowhere to be found. A California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted police with their searching that area.
Around 1:20 a.m., a Solano County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the suspect near an apartment building close to the intersection of Dover Avenue and East Pacific Avenue.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. It was not clear if police were able to recover the cash that was robbed from the victim, which amounted to over $2,000.
No additional information was available as of early Friday morning.
