What was supposed to be a traffic stop in Fairfield for a minor infraction turned into a dangerous police pursuit that ended with a suspect shot in Vallejo on Sunday.

The incident started around 10 p.m. when a Fairfield Police Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a white SUV near the intersection of North Texas Street and Air Base Parkway.

The driver initially stopped for the officer, only to take off a few seconds later, leading police there on a pursuit that wound through several surface streets.

At one point, the suspect fired shots at officers, according to police dispatches. The driver then got onto the westbound lanes of Interstate 80, where the pursuit reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended near Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo with a volley of shots fired in the direction of the driver.

The suspect, identified as Patrick Hall, was struck once in the thigh. He was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

None of the officers involved in the shooting or pursuit were injured.
