Four dead, six others hurt after major crash in Rio Vista
Four people were killed in a major head-on crash that triggered the full closure of Highway 12 in Rio Vista on Wednesday.
The collision was reported around 8:15 p.m. along Highway 12 near Summerset Drive.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, including two who were ejected from a minivan, according to preliminary information learned by Solano NewsNet. A fourth person died after being taken to the hospital.
Six other people were taken to local hospitals in Vacaville, Fairfield and Sacramento with various injuries. Their conditions were not known as of Wednesday evening.
The cause of the head-on crash was not readily known, nor was it clear if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision. A source familiar with the incident said some of the people who were injured were not wearing their seat belts.
The California Highway Patrol implemented a full closure of all lanes of Highway 12 between Summerset Drive and Church Street while first responders processed the scene of the collision.
In addition to the CHP, the Rio Vista Fire Department, the Rio Vista Police Department and the Solano County Sheriff's Office were at the scene of the crash.
In a social media post, a spokesperson for the Rio Vista Fire Department said the crash would likely cause delays in responding to non-emergency calls for service throughout the evening.
