One person has died after being struck by a train in Suisun City, Solano NewsNet has confirmed.

The fatality was reported around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Sunshine Street just east of the railroad crossing on Sunset Avenue.

An engineer with Union Pacific said a pedestrian was walking on the tracks when they were struck about 300 feet away from the crossing at Railroad Avenue and Sunset Avenue.

A fire paramedic later discovered the body of a man near the train tracks. Their injuries were consistent with a crash involving a train, according to police dispatches.

The victim was tentatively identified as a man in his early 20s. Solano NewsNet is not naming the victim at this time because it is not clear if police have been able to notify his relatives.

It was not clear why the man was on the train tracks at the time of the fatal strike. Suisun City police officers are investigating the crash.

The train was moved from the intersection around 5:30 p.m.; Sunset Avenue re-opened to vehicular traffic a short time later.
