Pedestrian dies after crash with vehicle in Vacaville

One person was killed in a traffic crash between a pedestrian and a motorist in Vacaville on Thursday.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on a stretch of Elmira Road east of Leisure Town Road.

A source familiar with the incident said the driver of a hybrid sedan was speeding on the roadway when they fatally struck a bicyclist who was on the side of the road.

The bicyclist suffered major head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The identity of the victim was not readily available.

It was not clear if the driver involved in the crash faces any charges.

Elmira Road was closed for much of the morning while police investigated the incident.
