A Vacaville resident was arrested by police in San Rafael last week on suspicion of embezzling from a business in the North Bay.

Kara Orella, 45, had allegedly been stealing from the company for years and was finally caught after a bookkeeper discovered some unusual financial activity on its accounts.

Police did not disclose which company Orella worked for, but Solano NewsNet has learned it was Enterprise Events Group, a management agency based in San Rafael. The company helps facilitate small- and large-scale events like company meetings, sales conferences and roadshows, according to its website.

After the issue was discovered, Enterprise Events Group fired Orella and reached out to police for a follow-up investigation. A criminal probe was conducted, and Orella was arrested last week. The total loss to the business was reported at $661,000.

Her arrest was first reported by the Marin Independent Journal newspaper. The newspaper said Orella had a criminal history prior to her work at the events planning company, including a case that earned her a three-year suspended sentence in connection with grand theft and burglary in Sonoma County.

Orella is expected to be tried on charges of embezzlement and forgery in connection with the most-recent criminal case.
