All lanes of Interstate 80 have re-opened to traffic after a tomato truck lost its load in Vacaville early Monday morning.
The crash happened around 5:10 a.m. when an open-roof tomato truck crashed into the center median along westbound Interstate 80, sending thousands of tomatoes crashing onto the neighboring eastbound lanes of the road.
Five other vehicles were also involved in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The far-left lane of westbound Interstate 80 and multiple lanes of the eastbound portion of the freeway were blocked for several hours while crews cleared the crash and cleaned up the spill.
On the eastbound side of the freeway, traffic was backed up to Waterman Boulevard in Fairfield. On the westbound side, traffic was slow from the scene of the crash to Vaca Valley Parkway.
By noon, all lanes of the freeway had re-opened to traffic on both sides, the CHP said.
